Summary

A thorough working through of the youth justice assessment and planning frameworks (AssetPlus & Prevention and Diversion), looking at good vs. not so good practice examples and replicating good practice through group exercises. More specific training can also cover areas such as Behaviour Analysis, Desistance, Risk Identification, Risk Management / Contingency Planning, Reviews, Remand / Custody / Resettlement assessment & Planning practice.

Outline

OBJECTIVES –  At the end of the course participants will be able to:

• Understand how to create a logical flow of information through the frameworks
• Understand how to structure answers to provide high quality evidence with minimal duplication/wasted effort
• Understand how and where underpinning theories / models are applied in the frameworks – Desistance, Good Lives Model, Change Theory, Case Formulation, Trauma Recovery etc.
• Ensure assessments identify and analyse all the behaviours, safety concerns, strengths and needs of the child.
• Produce tailored / child specific plans that address behaviours / safety concerns whilst supporting their strengths and needs
• Understand how the completion of AssetPlus should differ for other assessment stages

 FORMAT – Attendees will carry out the following for each section of the frameworks:

1. Listen to an explanation of best practice
2. Complete exercises for key sub-sections to apply the best practice using a dummy or live case example
3. Compare good vs. poor practice examples and identify/discuss the differences to solidify understanding

 DELIVERY FORMAT – 2 or 3 hour virtual training sessions delivered though Microsoft teams with use of screensharing to review examples/case information and break-out rooms where attendees will work through the completion of key parts of the frameworks in small groups based on a case example (dummy case or local case)
